Photographs of Reuben Van Vlack

We are in the process of carefully restoring over 300 glass plate negatives, the majority of them from between 1917 and 1919 relating to WWI. They were taken largely by Poughkeepsie native, professional photographer, WWI veteran and American Legion founder and state historian Reuben Van Vlack.

They will be featuring at an opening at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum's Wallace Center in May 2018 and include a never-before-published photograph of then Assistant Sec'y of the Navy Franklin D. Roosevelt marching in the 1919 "Welcome Home" parade.

They were a gift to DCHS of fellow veteran and Legion Post founder C. Fred Close.
