Amenia's Jewish Immigrants in the Early 20th Century
A Zoom-only Event, Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 pm
Betsy Strauss shares her findings on the immigrant story of Jews who settled in the rural northeast Dutchess County Town of Amenia, just after the turn of the last century. Through the stories of families like the Osofsky family, whose descendants still live in the area, Strauss shares the Jewish immigrant story we are more accustomed to hearing about in the lower East Side of Manhattan. Strauss is a long-serving Amenia Historical Society member, researcher, speaker and author, she is the winner of the 2018 Dutchess County Historical Society’s Helen Wilkinson Reynolds Award for the pursuit of historical truth.
Registration is through the Poughkeepsie Public Library, who is the generous sponsor of the DCHS Virtual Event Space for the month of October. This allows us to bring programs like this to you at no cost.
