Born out of the Revolutionary War, our country has relied on men and women to serve in its defense.

From DCHS Collections, top to bottom: Men assemble at Poughkeepsie’s Market and Main Streets in 1861 in anticipation of the fighting of the Civil War; men assemble, “mustering out” of service at the Armory at the corner of Church and Market Streets in the Spanish American War, 1898; draftees assemble at the Poughkeepsie train station in 1917 to begin training and service in World War One.
