Two sisters of the US North, from Staatsburgh’s elite Lewis and Livingston family, marry two brothers of the US South, from the prestigious Lowndes family. The story of the the northern and southern families reveals that despite distinctly different worldviews, one that would shortly bring about the Civil War, they were more alike than could be imagined.
