Special Recognition

Unique circumstances including the 2018: Year of the Veteran program and the long and special relationship DCHS and the County community has had with Walter Patrice, now 99 years old, prompted this unique recognition of the wide range of ways he has served his country and community, with special attention to his military service.

Walter Patrice served in World War II in Europe as an engineer, rising to the rank of First Lieutenant. During his tenure as historian of the Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Methodist Church, he secured the building’s designation as a nationally registered historic site.
