Local Journeys Toward the American Promise:
Liberty & Justice in Northern Dutchess 1676–1876
The Pursuit of Happiness Before, During and After the American Revolution in the area we today call Milan (founded in 1818 from the larger town of North East). Journeys affected by race, gender, faith, and financial means put the American promise that all are created equal to the test.
Although the event will not be live-streamed online, the talk at the Town Hall will be recorded and posted as a video on the DCHS Youtube Channel within a week of the presentation.

Why the Little Nine Partners Patent, the last to be formally settled in the Hudson Valley, is far from least when it comes to historical richness. Indigenous people. The wealthy. The impoverished. Free and enslaved Blacks. Non-traditional religious faiths. These dynamics put the American promise to the test right away.
