DAVIES: Davies Family Papers

The collection consists of the personal, business, and legal records of the Davies family, including William Davies, his sons Thomas L. Davies and William A. Davies, and the latter’s son Augustus Davies. The family personal records include probate records, cemetery deeds and records, trusts, wills, military appointments, correspondence, marriage contracts, religious records, photographs, poetry and other ephemera. The business records consist of financial statements, accounts, promissory notes, receipts, surveys, stock certificates, assessment notices and utility bills for 27 Cherry Street in New York City, connected to the Hubert Van Wagner estate. The legal contracts include a large volume of indentures, bonds, mortgages, releases, agreements, warranty deeds, quit claim deeds, and foreclosure deeds. The collection also features records of William A. Davies’s administration of the estates of Solomon Sutherland, Albert Lower, George B. Evertson, Hubert Van Wagner, Mary Van Wagner. Some of the William Davies indentures were signed by Gilbert and Henry Livingston as they served as Dutchess County Clerk.
