VASSAR-BOOTH: Vassar-Booth Collection

Box 1 of the Vassar-Booth Collection consists of legal and financial documents of the Vassar and Booth families of Poughkeepsie, NY. The box houses several legal documents following the death of Booth and Vassar family members, including wills, payments and matters of estate following the death of Oliver Booth, Lydia Booth, Lucia Booth, Edwin Vassar Booth, and Matthew Vassar Jr. There is personal correspondence within the Booth Family and correspondence between Matthew Vassar and Oliver Booth, along with Matthew Vassar Sr.’s Pale Ale recipe. Box 2 of the Vassar-Booth Collection contains 9 hardcover notebooks, all attributed to the Women’s City Missionary Society (WCMS), formerly known as the Women’s Union Bible and Tract Society or the Female Union Bible Society of Poughkeepsie. These are titled as minute-books, detailing the constitution of the organization, demographic information about members, and annual meeting notes spanning from 1840 to 1919. It is noted in the minutes that both Mrs. Jewett and Mrs. Vassar were members.
