December 31st is the 250th anniversary of the death of General Montgomery, a fitting local start to Rev250 (the 250th anniversary of the 1776 American Revolution in 2026) reflecting the high ambition, and high cost, of our American Revolution.
The Dutchess County Historical Society continues to have a healthy flow of collections gifts for perpetual care. Of course this kind of gift comes with a perpetual responsibility of care and preservation — interpretation — and accessibility to the public.
Occasionally something rare, but so aligned to our mission is offered for sale and we reach out to find interest in acquiring it. This is what has happened at Stair Galleries of Hudson, New York where DCHS will be able to fully and formally acquire the map, create publicly accessible digital versions, and store it in our usual archival conditions.
We are grateful to the donors who supported us with $7,000 in total for the full acquisition and initial conservation of the item.
