Poughkeepsie was known as the City of Schools well before the 1865 opening of Vassar College. One of the earliest named streets in Poughkeepsie is Academy Street, so-named because the Dutchess Academy was there. DCHS is grateful to Poughkeepsie Public Library District for supporting DCHS through their sponsorship of a DCHS Curated Topic. This page will be continually updated with information related to this topic. ~ Bill Jeffway, DCHS Executive Director.
