As a grateful public, we can call to mind searing images of devastating fires. Since childhood we have witnessed the pageantry and discipline of firefighters on parade.
But many day to day personal stories about the men and women who have served in this role, the extraordinary changes in technology that firefighters use, and fire houses of a bygone era that housed both men and horses, have not gotten the attention they deserve. Until now!
DCHS is assembling an exhibition about, and testimony to, the fire fighters of the county, past, present and future. We will draw from our own collections, and those on loan and shared by local historical societies and historical organizations. Stay tuned!
