When Are You Open?

By Appointment: We can accommodate appointments seven days a week—once we determine we’re able to assist with your request.

General Walk-In Hours:

  • Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
  • 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Closed on holidays

Important: Since we rely heavily on volunteers, please email us in advance to confirm availability and clarify your needs.

Do I Need an Appointment?

Yes. If you're looking for in-depth research assistance or specific archival material, we kindly ask that you schedule an appointment.

Why we require written requests:

  • We are not a taxpayer-funded county agency.
  • Our role is the preservation and protection of historical archives.
  • Written requests allow us to assess and respond efficiently.

What Can I Do During a Visit?

During open hours, you may:

  • Take a self-guided tour to see current archival work
  • Receive assistance completing our online "Ask" form

Note: We are not a museum or exhibition space. We are an archive and research nonprofit organization with non-circulating materials.

Are There Any Costs?

The Dutchess County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that depends on donations and memberships. We do not receive regular taxpayer funding.

Some inquiries may involve modest research or processing costs, which will be discussed with you in advance if applicable.
